Million wells Campaign

Puravankara in association with Biome Environmental Trust is working on Rainwater Harvesting projects involving the digging of new Open Wells, the rejuvenation of existing Wells, and Recharge wells in Public parks, public spaces, Govt offices, and Schools.

As of date, we have completed working on 12 Wells (6 Open Wells, 3 Recharge Wells, and 4 well rejuvenation in Bangalore). By end of this year, we are planning to complete at least 25 Projects.

As part of the Million Wells campaign, around 12 existing heritage/old wells have been restored in Bengaluru and surrounding areas. These include one at Rest House Park, two wells in Lalbagh, one well in Sonnapannahalli, six wells in Hunasamaranahalli, one Kalyani in Hunsamaranahalli, and one well in Devarajeevanahalli. Approximately 3 lakhs litters of water drawn every day from these wells, benefitting around 16,000 people.

Four new open wells have been excavated at different sites across Bengaluru city to address daily water needs. These wells are located at Rest House Park, two at the ACF Office in Madiwala, and one near Hunsamaranahalli Lake. Collectively, they serve 3,500 people in the locality

Nine recharge wells have been dug at different locations to recharge the groundwater and keep the existing borewells and wells nearby alive. These recharge wells include two at Rest House Park, two at ACF office, Madiwala, one at Vidyaprabodhini, Goa, and four at ASC Army training center Bengaluru. These recharge wells recharged approximately 120 Lakh Liters of water last year.

Additionally, six rainwater harvesting systems have been installed at various locations: one at Sonappanahalli School, one at the ACF office in Madiwala, three at the ASC Army Training Center in Bengaluru, and one at Vidyaprabodhini School in Goa. Collectively, these systems can harvest up to 43 lakh litres of water annually.

A distinctive project has been launched in the Hunsamaranahalli area, North Bengaluru to combat water scarcity and fulfil daily water needs of the locality from shallow aquifers. As part of the project, two new filter bore wells (Borewells with filters installed for uninterrupted water supply) were drilled, and one existing filter bore well was refurbished, collectively supplying 13.07 Lakh Litres of water monthly.
